The scammer gets scammed

There's an old saying: "You can't cheat an honest man".

Creditwrench CEO Billie Bauer recently proved all by himself that he doesn't fit the category of an "honesty man".

Recently he received an email that indicated that $10.00 had been credited to his paypal account. Rather than doing what a normal person would do, knowing all of the phishing scams that surround financial institutions like paypal, and check his account, he responded to the email. In his response to the email he asked why they were giving him $10.00, which to Creditwrench CEO Billie Bauer is a lot of money.

Creditwrench CEO Billie Bauer then believes his email bounced back because the email account he replied to was invalid.

Here's how Creditwrench CEO Billie Bauer has been scammed.

1. His reply email did not bounce back. A bot responded with an auto-reply to make it appear it had. Rather, his email actually was received by the scammer.

2. The scammer now knows Creditwrench CEO Billie Bauer's email address is indeed valid.

This scam is simply one of many methods of "email harvesting."

The scammer will now use this valid email address to send spam and make it appear as though the spam originates from Creditwrench CEO Bill Bauer's email address. Addtionally, it will be sold to other spammers who will do the same. The scammer could also use it for more sinister purposes such as sending out backdoor trojans. All done with the appearance that it originates from Creditwrench CEO Billie Bauer's email address.

Here is a good article on email harvesting. As the article points out, some of the consequences Creditwrench CEO Billie Bauer could face as a result of his stupidity are:

--You will lose your ISP.
--You will lose your Domain host.
--You will lose your Domain.
--Your name will be added to the spam list.
--Your business will be blacklisted.
--You will gain a very bad reputation as a spammer.

The last one probably doesn't mean much to Creditwrench CEO Billie Bauer as he already has a bad reputation.
